Again. How very weird. Hmmmm.

Well, thanks to EZnet, and Simona's superior computer-setting-up skills, we are safetly installed here at home! So I can 'clog' from the relative comfort of my own kitchen table. Two days ago it was my birthday, my 25th birthday. I was spoilt rotten! I got the best pressies, and surrounded by best friends I ate myself stupid as ever. The diet started today! I am so very lucky in my friendships, and in my family. I smile as I write, so thankful am I.

Simona and I have been faithfully walking 1/2 an hour every night for some time now. Lately we have taken to spending it praying. Tonight we dedicated it entirely to thank yous, not allowing ourselves any petition at all. Half an hour of thank you's is very easy to come by. I feel so uplifted, and I hope that He feels similarly!

One thing Simona thanked Himself for (and I concurred) was the boldness and courage it took for my mum and dad to come 'out of the wilderness'. I am amazed that after 35 years of such narrow living both have been so incredibly willing and successful at living outside the box. There were others of us that did not make it so successfully, who could not live 'in the world' but returned to the prison and locked the doors behind.

Soon I will post a poem I wrote about my experiance of this journey on my poetry blog...look for it tomorrow!

Awesome to hear the updates :)

Even more awesome is the strength of your parents.

I was listening to 1 Corinthians today on my Bibliotheque Phonographique and I came across this verse:

"9I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you.""

The Apostle is talking about making sure that other people of the faith live correctly, NOT hiding from an immoral world.

Interesting, yes?

Oops, me again; being a nerd and double posting.

I just noticed that you were still reading Genesis (at least, on your blog sidebar it says that).

Pretty huge book, I know, but I couldn't help but gleefully realise that if you had my audio bible you could listen to it in under four easy hours ;)

I have had an email asking this and I think you are the best person to answer if you would.
Anon asked: 'I have a question for you both (Mum & Sharyn) How did you learn to become emotionally real when you never had the opportunity before. I would like to know how you went about it, would be very interesting.'

Hmmm random unconnected point Iain, but interersting nonetheless! Lol. I have never read that verse before. That is to say, I have read it, but not really READ it. If you get what I mean.

And yes, I am reading Genesis - its HUMOUNGOUS. I can't spell that word. Hmmm well, I just read one section a night so that I propery absorb it. Finally finished the 'Esau's descendents' sections. Jeepers.

And Mum...I shall presently blog about that!

Oh yeah, I think I remember that bit. I listened to it a bit fast; doesn't it go something like this...?
________

Genesilly Chapter i

And he spake unto Esau, "Take the loin of thine camel and strike it three times, and a burning potsherd will pass through the middle of it causing you to fall into a deep slumber where the worm will not burn."

And Esau did this, and it was so.

And Esau begat Homogenes.
Homogenes begat Mephistopheles.
Mephistopheles begat Protogesterone and was no more.

And the Lord said, "Woe to him who is no more, for he shall not inherit the earth and everything in it."

And it was very good.

I hope that the point I made previously is more connected than you realise.

When I read/heard that verse it made me think about those people who come out from the world and form closed communities. They usually do so on the basis of the "come out from among them" verse from (i think) the same book (i think, i think). Well, this shows that Paul doesn't intend a withdrawal even from an immoral society, but instead a tightening of integrity for those who claim to be part of the community of faith.

It's not about being closed, it's about being pure.

Ja?

Hi,
I'm a new reader and just wanted to say happy Birthday!
Interesting post. I think sometimes the call to be separate can turn into sub-culture instead of counter-culture.

Ah yes, that is linked. I wasn't thinking sideways enough. Well, that is really interesting Iain-san. We used the 'in the world but not of it' verse to justify our existance. Obviously, we got the wrong end of the stick. (Although like most ex-cultites, I imagine, I still have those stabs of fear, those 'what if we WERE rigth' moments.)

Yes, clogging. It's Dutch for Blogging.

Thanks Catez! It was a very happy birthday. Um...I totally concur. It's a fine line, this being in but not of....and although my past life completely erased and redrew it, its always a challenge to find the 'balance' or the tension there.
